Mixed Martial Arts Class

The MMA class is primeraly dsigned for those who are interested in fighting inside a cage or ring. This class is good for those who have a background in boxing, judo, karate, muay thai, or wrestling. However you do not need to have a background in any of these disciplines.

The class covers striking, take downs, throws, and ground grappling. Be forewarned, this class is much more intensive than the BJJ class, a lot is expected from the participant!!

The class will start with anything from striking drills to wrestling drills, to ground grappling drills. The student will learn striking, and how to fight at that range, or use those techniques to set up his or her takedowns and throws, and then how to deal with the ground, should he or she end up there.

The student will be required to spar while standing in addition to combining striking with his or her grappling.

After a period of time, if the student desires and we see that he or she is ready, the student will be allowed to MMA events...but you are going to have to be ready first!

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: I am new to this and am not in very good shape, should I get in shape first?
Answer: No, the warmups and drills you will do at the beginning of the class will gradually get you into shape, you just need to work at your own pace and determine what you can do and what you cannot, but bear in mind what I said above...this can be a very intense class!.

Question: What type of gear do I need for this class?
Answer: You will need boxing gloves, MMA style gloves, muay thai shin pads, mouth piece, cup (if you are a male), and head gear. The school can direct you where to get them at.

Question: Will I learn self-defense that will help me in a street altercation?
Answer: Not in this class!! The MMA class, like the BJJ class, is more tournament oriented! Occasionally we will cover self-defense, but not that often.

Question: I already have a few fights under my belt and have fought before in the ring how will this class help me?
Answer: Well first, put your ego away!! The class is here to help you develop your technique and become a better fighter. If you cannot humble yourself and open your mind to correct your mistakes.....ain 't no class ever going to be able to help you.

Question: How do I know this class is right for me, can I come down and watch?
Answer: Yes you can come down and watch, in fact I suggest you sit in one a class, but watch all the different classes that are offered at the school first and see which class you want, then sit in on the class, because you are only allowed one free class.
